Sunday January  Speakers

January 22: Fobby Naghmey

Fobby H. Naghmi, was born in Lahore, Pakistan and came to the USA in 1972 at the age of 5. Growing up in the suburbs of Washington, DC, he was influenced by both American and Pakistani cultures. At the age of 21, Fobby had a spiritual experience that brought tremendous change in his life and in the manner he began to view life. Although never questioning any traditional religious teachings, he began seeking alternative views and found the spiritual teachings of many authors. At the age of 30, he found himself wanting to pray as he had seen his father pray, so he found the schedule of a local mosque and began praying in the traditional Muslim method. Today, Fobby leads a balanced life between spiritualism and Islamic teachings. He is currently a sales manager for Access National Mortgage.

January 29: Robert Ney

Robert was born on July 5, 1954 and has been a lifetime resident of Eastern Ohio. He has received two Honorary Doctorates (Rio Grande College and The College of Steubenville). In 1978 Bob served as a Teacher in Iran, followed by his political career in both the Ohio Legislature (1981-1982) and Ohio Senate (1984-1994). In 1994 he was elected as Ohio Congressman to the U.S. House of Representatives and served until 2006. During his tenure with the U.S. House, he was Chairman of the House Administration Committee, Chairman of the Sub Committee on Housing and Deputy Whip for the Republican Leadership. From 2008-2011 he worked for Talk Radio News Service. Currently he is self-employed. Bob has two adult children (Bobby and Kayla) and one beautiful granddaughter, Aaliyah. He currently resides in Newark, OH.

Following our Sunday service and fellowship meal and as part of our World Religion month, Bob Ney will speak on Buddhist spirituality which he has witnessed firsthand in India. Buddhism is concerned with the end of suffering through the enlightened understanding of reality, and it stresses the cultivation of wisdom and compassion. Meditation and breathing are a "key" to stability for people and these practices have been adopted in the West. This “Open Forum/Workshop” will focus on these practices and the theories of Buddhism in modern "stressful" society. Bob will also explore the overall spirituality in In-dia amongst many people from various religions and backgrounds. Bob generously gives his time and appreciates your free-will donation to the CSE for this event.

Mr. Davis is a Certified Medium from Missouri where he is associated with the Fifth Spiritualist Church of St. Louis.  In 1991, he was inspired to go to China to study with the Buddhist Priests at the Shaolin Temple. While there, meditating on one of the three mountains, a small "ancient" looking monk appeared and told him of an instrument that heals by vibration and sound. [He further stated that over 6,000 years ago the wise ones of the earth had mastered the art of healing with vibrations created by instruments similar to the gongs that can still be found in temples throughout the orient.] However, the art of combining the harmonic energies of the instrument to heal had been lost. The ancient one offered to teach him this art if he would agree to create the instrument. He would be shown how to create the healing sound patterns that the instrument was capable of generating, and asked to serve as a teacher of this lost art in the western world.

These techniques have been used by warriors, monks, and healers for centuries. They are being rediscovered and studied by modern scientists. They have been used to heal military veterans, 9/11 responders, victims of disasters, war and other traumas, as well as to enhance spiritual practice of Taoist and Buddhist monks, Christian monks and Zen chaplains.

A TRADITIONAL VICTORIAN SÉANCE

Saturday, March 31, 2011
8:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m.
Cost:
$60 members / $75 non-members

CSE turns back time to recreate a traditional Victorian-Style séance to commemorate the anniversary of Modern Spiritualism. Relive yesteryear with live period music and truly delicious samples of food from the Victorian era.

The earliest days of Modern Spiritualism often centered around the séance table. Since that time, tradition holds that mental mediumship takes place in a home circle, while physical mediumship takes place in a séance circle. The Founders of Spiritualism explored the séance as a means of deep and profound transformation and revelation. They came from every religious denomination, united in their search for enlightenment, and preparing the world for the emergence of the Fox Sisters’ astonishing communications with Spirit.

Join us in recreating this tradition. Spiritualist Mediums will sit at every table to bring messages from the Spirit World to each participant. Mediums will dress in Victorian costume, we invite you to dress to recreate the atmosphere.  click here for dress ideas.

This event features:

  • Spirit messages at each table

  • Victorian-era musical entertainment

  • Victorian-style refreshments, sweets after the séance

  • Door prizes

Mediums and attendees will be given a number at the registration door, and will sit at the corresponding table number. Unfortunately, we cannot reserve a particular medium or table for you.

"The Help"

February 24, 2012 [New Date]

Starting time: 7:00 p.m.

Cost: $10

At the outset of the civil rights movement in Jackson, Mississippi, three unique women unite to share the stories of dozens of the city's black servants, who have been kept voiceless for too long. Skeeter is fresh home from college, with big dreams of becoming a journalist, though her mother just wants her to find a husband. Aibileen, a black maid, is the heart and soul of her household, now working on raising her seventeenth white child. Her best friend Minnie, is the best cook in the city, but can not find a job because of her tendency to speak the cold truth. Together, these three unforgettable ladies launch a crusade to collect the stories of the town`s silent servants, and try to tear down the unspoken racial barriers that traverse the homes and hearts of everyone in Jackson.

About the Book Club: Each month will start with a presentation on the current book selection to give an overview and foster comments, questions and discussions. Each book will be announced at least a month in advance. Bring your insights, feelings and thoughts to expand our roundtable!
